We are an excited bunch at Base Backpackers Queenstown.
Any rumours that winter was on its way out have been firmly flushed back down the toilet this weekend. Queenstown woke up after a blizzardly few days to a snow blanketed town, Awesome!
Winter is firmly back on track and looking set to stay for the long haul. You know it’s going to be a good day when you wake up in the morning to the clatter of snow chains tackling the road outside. The pay off was immense for those fortunate few of us who braved the tail end of the blizzard, put our lives in the hands of our trusty bus driver and made the slither up the Remarkables mountain!! Three foot of the finest powder you will find on any mountain and fresh lines to be had on every run down. This was heli-skiing where no helicopter could possibly get to all for the price of a $5 bus ride up the mountain and an extra set of thermals. The ultimate pay off came in the late afternoon when the winds finally eased and the cloud lifted, like a model slowly removing the veil draped over the latest supercar, the majestic Wakatipu basin and the Remarkables were revealed in their full glory.
There’s no doubt about it, we’re a pretty spoilt bunch living in Queenstown, we’ve got life pretty dam good. Yes we all know how Melbourne bangs on about being the 2nd most liveable city in the world, but when it comes to towns there is no question, there is no competition, Queenstown rules the roost.
